Custom Weaving – FAQ

At Sonder Handwovens, we pride ourselves on high-end, boutique items made with the skill and talent that years of experience brings.

We can create custom fabric in many forms, including yardage by the metre, babywraps, scarves, and towels, to name a few.

How does the custom process work?

The custom process can vary depending on the item. Firstly, we will guide your expectations to ensure that they match our own, including the timeframe, cost, and nature of handwoven items, as well as the process.

Some items can only use certain fibres and techniques, due to the items end use. For example, towels can’t use wool, and some weaving drafts wouldn’t hold up to everyday use that towels require.

We take on board these things when guiding you through the process, and will advise on what is best for the end use.

 

How much is a custom project?

The pricing per metre is available on our Pricing page.

Pricing starts at the base price for each item, and then listed underneath the base price is add ons including different fibres, drafts, and techniques.

 

How do I express an interest in a custom project?

Put your details and the nature of the project into this form.

Once we’ve received it, we’ll confirm your place on the waitlist via email and advise on wait times. Once your spot comes up, we’ll email you to let you know. and ask for a 20% deposit before buying fibres. This deposit is non-refundable. The remaining payment will be due on completion and prior to mailing.

 

What are your payment expectations?

We expect 20% of the total cost when your spot comes up. This is non-refundable and will be used to buy fibres. Remaining payment will be due on completion and prior to mailing. We offer multiple payment methods including Paypal, Credit card, and Afterpay.
